Customer Campaign: Mobilizing WillowTree Apps

Tags: none

Maybe you haven't heard of them, but chances are you've seen their work: WillowTree Apps has been in business since 2008 doing mobile strategy, design and app development for clients like GE, Johnson & Johnson, Time Warner, AOL, and our very own University of Virginia (go Hoos)! When it was time to expand their office space, they turned to Virginia National Bank.

"We're a local business – we want to work with people here in the community," said Founder and CTO Michael Prichard. "We think Charlottesville is a great place to be and work, and we're dedicated to building the company here. We could have gone with a lot of different banks, but VNB knows who we are and what we do, as opposed to being just a number with a national bank."

And what WillowTree Apps has been doing is growing at an astronomical rate: revenue has doubled every year, they were recently recognized as the ninth fastest growing company in Virginia, and in 2013, they cleared $8.5 million in revenue.

VNB helped get the WillowTree Apps staff of 74 into their new office space on the downtown mall with a line of credit and some real estate financing. "All the work we do is done here in downtown Charlottesville," said Prichard. "We get pressure to move – but we want to stay here. We've built a top tier team of smart, passionate people with rigorous standards who love what they do and it clearly shows."

The decision to stay in Charlottesville is about offering the best possible quality of life for their employees. "We have really low turnover. Our clients appreciate the fact that the people who start working on their project are the people who finish it." We here at VNB share the same philosophy, and we are so proud to work with WillowTree Apps.

Composed of veterans, non-veterans, and representatives of the University of Virginia and Charlottesville area community, the ParadeRest Board of Directors has donated its time since 2009 towards providing ways to engage military and their families with the local community. Expressions of gratitude have taken the form of donated tickets to entertainment and sporting events, as well as planning for a variety of community events, including an annual commemoration of Memorial Day at the Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville and open to the public.  This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, May 25th.  Doors open at 1:00 pm and Board Chair, Glenn Rust, CEO and President of Virginia National Bank. will kick off the program at 2:00 pm followed by a showing of the movie Patton at 2:45 pm. Complimentary popcorn and drinks will be available for everyone in attendance.  The entire community is encouraged to help celebrate and honor our military and their families on this special holiday weekend.

In an effort to further expand their mission, the ParadeRest Board also launched a luncheon speaker series this spring. The first luncheon was held Thursday, May 1st at Glenmore Country Club with featured speaker, Christopher Kidd, Managing Director of Polaris Partners, Ltd.  Upcoming event speakers will be Ed Meese, U.S Attorney General during the Reagan administration and Chuck Robb, former Governor of Virginia, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Marine.  For more information on all upcoming events, please visit the website at  www.paraderestva.org.
